Merry Christmas!

This will be my last update for 2005! Scary eh? I finish work today and don't have a computer at home at the moment so this is it from me till I come back to work on the 9th of January 2006!!!

Anyway first to quickly update from my past few days. Work lunch on Tuesday was nice, I had a steak sandwich - yum! Tuesday night was an extremely exciting evening. Darren and I set up our aquarium. It looks SO great, we are both very happy with it. We bought plants and an ornament and gravel. Now we need to let it sit for a week or so to allow bacteria to start developing before we put the fish in. Last night I met up with my school friends which was great, really don't see them enough. We went out for desert to Blue Jeans Cuisine, which was nice but I thought the deserts were pretty average, like perfectly nice but not special. Susannah is up from Dunedin so it was great to see her.

Today I did the VERY LAST of my Christmas shopping! Woot! It was an awesome effort I must say. And pretty funny too because I went with Earl. We split up and met again 40 minutes later. I had bought 5 presents in that time and he'd bought none. I guess not everyone can be as awesome at shopping as me!

Now Christmas Day will be fun! I haven't decided yet if I'll have lunch with my family or Darrens. And we're having my family for "tea" at our new place. Although it will be most likely just picking at leftovers. I can't wait. Hopefully I can convince my family not to exchange presents till they get to my house but we'll see.

Then we're going to the sounds for a holiday. And so we'll be there for New Years as well. I really can't wait. I love the sounds - well Port Underwood - so much. It's one of the most special places in the world to me. So many wonderful holidays there with family, and waterskiing and sunbathing and going for walks etc oh I'm getting all excited just thinking about it!

I hope you all have a really awesome Christmas and New Years!!!!

Loads of love
Mindy

ps I almost forgot the most important thing! I had my annual Church going experience on Sunday. Mum and Amy were singing in the choir at their Church and they sounded fantastic. Now I'm not a Christian but I was bought up one so it's always a bit straneg for me going to my old Church, I went through a period of absolutely hating it, but I think I've grown up a bit now and I didn't mind it at all. I've even decided I could possibly get married in a Church, for tradition reasons not for religious reasons, but I know my family, grandparents etc would prefer a Church wedding. Not that I'm getting married anytime soon, it's just something I've always worried about.

Apparently it's going to be hot today, not that I'll know it as my office only ever gets to 23 degrees and no hotter. But to everyone who is outside remember to wear sunscreen!

I had a lovely weekend in my new home. The weekend started though at the Jade Christmas BBQ which was a very nice evening. And Adam make a new friend, Dominque, I think he was quite taken with her, I'm sure I heard him exclaim at least twice how cute she was. She seemed pretty interested in him as well, though they didn't talk very much. But she was hanging around him a lot! Anyway after most people had gone home we left and took Adam home where I got a tour of Adam's house which was really messy ;)

The rest of the weekend was good too. Darren spent all Saturday Christmas shopping which is a great sign. I spend the morning (and some of the afternoon) gardening and washing windows at my old flat. And we had a family dinner on Saturday night which was great.

I get a lot more visitors at my new house, it's great! Mostly they are from my immediate family but that's still good.

Anyway I'd better go now.

Mystery

Mystery
Originally uploaded by Omfu.
The strangest thing happened yesterday morning. Let me tell you a wee story.

Well I was driving to work as usual, as per any other day (albeit taking a slightly different route since I live in a different house now). On my entire trip I saw nothing out of the ordinary at all. Now maybe I just wasn't paying enough attention to the outside world, I do try to be a diligent driver and concentrate mainly on the road and traffic whilst driving. So driving along totally unaware of what was about to happen. I pulled into the work driveway, again everything appeared to be normal. I got a good park got out of my car... forgetting to look at the Ks, as I was attempting to measure exactly how far it was from my new house to work. And writing this now I realise I did exactly the same thing this morning... bugger. Anyway I get out of my car, walk up to the door. Open it. That's all fine nothing strange yet. Open the next door with my special door opening wand. That's fine too. So so far it's pretty a pretty average sort of morning, not in the least the type of morning that you'd expect to be turned upside down in just a minute. Anyway I walk up the stairs, through the door, past the kitchen and into my office... and there it is. A wet tea towel sitting right in the middle of my desk in front of my computer! Dampening the piece of paper I had sitting there (don't worry it wasn't too important).

Now I am washed a flood with confused thoughts. "Did I leave that tea towel there?" no, "Did something spill on my desk that requires mopping up with a tea towel?" no, "Has someone been drying dishes at my desk?" possibly, but unlikely. To this day (which is a day later) I still haven't solved this mystery.

Now the curious amoung you might be thinking, "well what did you do with the tea towel". Well I'll tell you. I took it into the kitchen and hung it on the tea towel hook.

And that's the end of the story... for now.

Incidentally the picture of the tea towel I found to accompany my little tale of intrigue was from amazon, and that picture tea towel cost $11.99US isn't that amazing!

What I learned

clumsy
Originally uploaded by Omfu.
Actually is it "what I learned" or "what I learnt"? I'm not sure. Maybe if Lara reads this she can tell me.

So anyway moving has taught me one thing. That is, that I am clumsy. No I didn't break any $4mil dollar antique vase (possibly I would have if I had one though) but the fact remains I'm a bit clumsy. I managed to get scratches in a set of drawers I had, additionally I split a bucket full of water onto the floor.

Now I've always been a bit clumsy (you know suddenly tripping over when walking when there are absolutely not obstacles to trip on, and I always manage to walk into doors - not closed ones I'm not that stupid but when I walk through a doorway I often hit my arm or shoulder or hip on the frame or door handle) but a whole bucket of water! I guess it could have been worse, it could have been a bucket of jelly or something.

Speaking of which I made some pineapple jelly last night and it was delicious!

Anyway apart from my clumsiness shifting went well, mostly because of Darren and Mum and Dad who did an awesome job. And we're all shifted in and it's such a lovely little house.

Moving Day Today!!!

Well today is moving day, although I'm almost 100% positive that not everything will get moved today. But today is the day we're shifting the bed and so will begin sleeping in the new house, which counts as moving day in my books. But the weather looks bad so we'll see. And also we're not taking time off work or anything, this will all take place after work so good luck to us.

Right I'm off to go see if Adam or Nick have updated their page.

Busy Week ahead

It was super fun, everyone was suitably attired (Adam looked great in his Captain Jack Sparrow-ish outfit and makeup), the punch was delicious (well it was at the beginning of the night), got to catch up with Nick who happens to be wicked at the macarena, what more could you ask for! After that my weekend involved a lot less alcohol and a lot more cleaning and shifting.

Saturday morning I packed up my room, then Saturday afternoon we shifted things into the garage of our new place. Saturday evening I was knackered and watched a teen chick flick borrowed from Claire then went to sleep. Sunday we cleaned and went to the dump and cleaned some more and then relaxed. I'm going to have a few more evenings of the same this week I think. Just due to the unfortunate web of shifting I'm involved with: We're moving into Mum and Dad's property which my Auntie has been living in, that Auntie owns the flat that Darren has been flatting in so there's a lot of shifting and cleaning all to be done at once and that's without even taking into consideration my flat!

Oh well I must leave you now and continue at my work.

Hope you all had great weekends!

Happy Birthday Party Day Adam!

Adam is having a pirate birthday party. I can't decide whether to go as a female pirate, a whore (you know the type that services pirates), or just dressed in a pirate flag. I will update all with my decision on Monday!

My sores/burns are quite a bit better, well I'm not sure about the one on my leg because it's all covered up but the one on my arm is which is good. Although it does still look suitably impressive. It will help add tomy authenticity if I decide to go as a pirate chick.

Also my good good good friends Sarah and Uma are down from Wellington this weekend! Yay!!!! It feels like years since I've seen Uma, which it isn't, but truthfully I can't remember the last time I saw her, I know I saw her at Rach and Greg's wedding this time last year but I must have seen her since then.... surely!

The Culprit

hogweed1
Originally uploaded by Omfu.
Hello All,

I did some (uh hm actually lots) of research yesterday and found out what the plant was that attacked me and all that jazz. It's called Giant Hogweed and is classified a noxious weed in most places it grows (not Christchurch New Zealand for some reason). Anyway this is what one website had to say:

"BEWARE! The sap from the leaves and particularly the stem is highly toxic and contact with the skin can lead to severe scars. Contact with the eyes can lead to temporary or, in some cases, permanent blindness. The sap renders skin photo-sensitive which means that exposure to sunlight following contact causes blisters and burns. If you do come into contact with the plant, and especially the sap, you are advised to wash the affected areas immediately, keep them out of direct sunlight and seek medical advice."

Scary stuff eh? I've read quite a lot and technically as far as I understand it's actually a burn on the site of the sap, the sap reacts with uv light and gains engery and burns ya, like a directed sunburn. Which is interesting because when I went to the pharmacy they didn't know anything about the plant or how to treat it but they said it looked like a burn not like a normal plant rash. Unfortunately I read somewhere else that if the wound is dark red and not blistery it will probably turn into a purple-black scar and I've got one wound like that on my leg. :( I think the other ones won't scar though which is good, although they are starting to get damn itchy.

Again poor poor Alex and Saxon!

Stay away from giant hogweed!

Anyway I have a lot of news but I'll just go real quick as I'm actually quite busy today. Um so it's almost Christmas, I have bought all of my Christmas presents apart from Dad's. Also it's Mum's birthday tomorrow, and Dad's birthday on Wednesday. And Adam's birthday on Saturday and also Gregs on Saturday too.

I've been extremely busy doing stuff. I'm moving in with Darren next week which is very exciting. We're going to have such a lovely house. And once we've moved in we can set up the fish tank! Woo!

Have a great day everyone. Please comment if you like I can still read the comments, just not post them. Thanks to Adam for already commenting today.

Happiness

I feel I am quite a happy person, well I'm extremely happy with my life anyway. And now I've found out why. They did a scientific study in Britain (for a television documentary) investigating the factors that made people happy. They came up with ten guidelines. The cool thing is I already do all of them, although some not as frequently as suggested. So I figure this is why I'm happy, and also if I do them more frequently I'll be happier! So that's great. The one I relate to most strongly is the first one, as I love my plants! I'm absolutely addicted to them. I find it hard to go to the supermarket now without buying one of the "wee cuties" range they have of small indoor plants. I've now bought 4 (2 gifts and 2 for me). So everyone should go and buy a plant and put it in a nice pot and put it on their desk. I also like growing things from seed. I'm having a second go at cacti, last time I think it was too cold but I'm hopeful this time!

Anyway without further ado I will share the secret of how to be as happy as me!

1. Plant something and nurture it.
2. Count your blessings .. at least five ..at the end of each day.
3. Take time to talk .. have an hour long conversation with a loved on each week.
4. Phone a friend who you have not spoken to for a while and arrange to meet up.
5. Give yourself a treat every day and take the time to enjoy it.
6. Have a good laugh at least once a day.
7. Get physical ..exercise for half an hour three times a week.
8. Smile at or say hello to a stranger at least once a day.
9. Cut your tv viewing by half.
10. Spread some kindness .. do a good turn for someone every day.

As You Wish Nick

Hello!

Well I just had a lovely 4 day weekend. Back at work today with a terrible cold. Go figure.

Anyway my weekend was lovely (as mentioned in the previous line). I went plant shopping on Friday and bought some strawberry plants and a Chatham Island forget-me-not for myself. And additionally I bought a fly trap for Darren. It is such a cool wee plant. On Friday night Darren fed it three flies he caught, it takes a few days to digest them, so we're expecting it to open up again any day now.

I also bought an aquarium in the weekend. There are two reasons for this:

1) I have wanted one ever since I was 10.
2) It was reduced from $109 -> $79.95 -> $50 at Mitre 10 so I took that as a sign.

It's just a wee one to start with (13.2 litres), and when I move into my new place I'm going to set it up and buy fish for it then. I can't really set it up at this flat as in my room the pump is a bit too noisey for me to sleep with. Well actually the pump is silent but the bubbles are noisey. But when I move I'll be able to set it up in the living room.

What other news? None really. My Auntie has just bought the house next door to Mum and Dad's but she won't live there for a couple of years.

John Cleese last night was interesting. It was really quite a personal type show, just him telling stories from his life, and his last trip to NZ. His daughter was involved in it, I couldn't believe she was only Amy's age!

Not Broken

Hello everyone,

My blog is not broken. Adam didn't break it. Despite vicious rumours started by a 6 foot 5 monster with a he.... oh actually lets not get into that.

I've lost my blogging motivation. Or maybe I'm more motivated to get straight to work when I sit down at the computer each morning. But don't worry my loves, I won't close the blog down, but might make it a weekly thing rather than daily. Or something like that, but I'll try and find a regular pattern so you all know what to expect.

Photos

I wrote a really long description of my trip for here yesterday but something went wrong and it got deleted. So I was grumpy and didn't publish anything.

Anyway my trip was good. While I was in Doncaster I didn't really do anything but working and also reading my book for about 10 minutes before going to sleep. I did however make it down to London for the weekend which was really fun. The things I saw/did are as follows:

  • The Tower of London
  • Leicester Square to buy cheap show tickets for a show.
  • Trafalgar Square to watch the pigeons.
  • The National Portrait Gallery.
  • Convent Garden (which has a nice market and some cool wee shops!)
  • Camden Markets which was awesome!
  • "High Society" a musical which was enjoyable but nothing to rave about.
  • St Pauls Cathedral
  • The Globe
  • Shopping on New Oxford St

Here are some pictures.

This is a photo I took at Doncaster Station. The trainspotters must have thought I was crazy - I was there with a camera but not taking photos of trains. Anyway I like train stations I've decided, they reminded me of Virginia Woofle in "The Hours".

Me and a Yeoman Warden. For some reason we're both looking in different directions. Weird! This is at the Tower of London.

This is me at Trafalgar Sq. A lot of people don't believe this, they say I photoshopped myself on, but you can see the droplets of water from the fountain on my hair!

This is... me! With St Paul's Cathedral in the background. The white splodge is scaffolding on St Pauls.

Inside of the globe. Everybody say oooh.

Back!

Hello Everyone!

I'm back! Well actually I got back on Saturday but that's neither here nor there. I'm not back at work yet, just unpacking and the like.

I had a very busy very tiring time! Almost a brain overload but I managed to escape with my brain in tact. I was practically working the whole time except for the weekend (last weekend) in between my two weeks. In that weekend i went down to London which was great! I loved it, I fit in quite a lot.

I guess I'll write in more detail tomorrow, and probably post some pics.

Hope you have all been good. I haven't really heard from a lot of you the whole time I was away - maybe you've all been as busy as I was!

The one Photo...

This is the one photo Kirsty is going to let me publish. It was such a great night!

Hello

Friday night was awesome. We took some pics on Kirsty's work camera so if she passes any on to me I might post them up here.

In other news I am feeling really sick. It's awful!

And very bad timing too... I'm going to the UK on Sunday!

Anyway got a lot of work to do.

Adios!

New Zealand Shops

I've noticed something the other day. I was watching TV and an ad came on for The Family Guy or something like that and they mentioned Bed Bath & Beyond (a shop that has recently opened in Chch in one or maybe two locations). Now it never occurred to me that this was actually an American or multinational chain of shops until I saw this ad. In Christchurch up until maybe the last 5 years as far as I know all the shops have been New Zealand shops, or at least Australian. Of course the fast food chains were an exception, but we never even had Starbucks here back 5 years ago!

I think it's really sad. I know there are probably some shops that I just haven't realised weren't New Zealand owned and operated but in general I feel we got by without having American chains here. Now we have Borders in Christchurch which I suppose is a cool shop, but we didn't need it. We always had Whitcoulls that you could go for for normal books, or there are a few places in town like Scorpio books where you could get rarer ones, and order things in. Clothing wise I personally thought it was great that we didn't have American or international shops. It made it exciting and special when you went overseas and bought stuff, but at the same time the stuff you could already buy here was great anyway. We had enough choice and options etc. Now we've got things like Levi shops opening and stuff like that.

I know this isn't a big issue and I'm not depressed about it or anything, I just think it is a wee bit sad.

:-) M

1. Is it true what they say about women and detachable shower heads? (BHN)

Well Nick I've never had a shower with a detachable shower head before so I can't actually speak from personal experience here. And also I've never discussed this with any of my women friends but to take a wild guess, I'd say yes.

Fire Engine!

Here's a picture of the fire engine, back at the scene of the fire a good 12 hours after the were first called! You can see on the very left some of the huge pile of magazines that were surrounding their garage that the firemen had to pull out of the garage. How boring and young am I that a fire engine excites me. Oh well.

That is all for today. Sorry!

Midday Update

Good Afternoon!

Firstly sorry to hear about your lip Adam (apparently he bit it)... hope your day doesn't fall into too much disarray!

Secondly does someone please want to run my life for me. It's too hard. I need someone to make decisions for me. Or at least I make the decisions based on what I want, and they can work out how to jusitfy them. Sigh. I'm very tired!

Thirdly you should all see the movie Gloomy Sunday. Many Christchurchtonians will have done this already (it's been running at the Arts Centre Theatre since 2001!) but if you haven't definitely go! Although remember to book first. I've decided it's been a couple of years since the last time I saw it so I'm going to go again next week. They show it in this really cute theatre with only 11 seats. It is such a good movie, it makes me cry so much!

Fourthly if anyone has the soundtrack for that movie Amy and I are desperately trying to track it down. Because it's very expensive to buy (like $79!).

Well

Turns out the garage across the road was jam-packed full of magazines! Thus the awesome flames. Now their driveway is full of magazines although most are burnt and somewhat damp. The fire engine had to come back twice during the day, I guess some were still smouldering or something!

And it was Amy's birthday on Saturday, and I think she had a good time and liked her presents. I thought she got lots of cool presents myself. So I guess now I can reveal that I've been making a quilt for her, that has been very time consuming. But now it's on her bed and she likes it and it was all worth it!

Don't really have much else to say today. Have a nice day everyone!

Bad Week

This is most certainly going to be a terrible week.

I wrote possibly the longest post I had ever written here when i got to work, and then for absolultely no reason my computer reboots and I lost it! Does anyone know of any viruses going round at the moment that do that? Anyway.

What I had said was I am incredibly tired. Then I went into great detail about how I awoke last night at 3am to a crackling sound. Thinking it was a very odd time for a bonfire I looked out my window and the house across the road was going up in flames! It was a very surreal sight.

Anyway I described all in great detail but to summarise now. It luckily was only the garage and a car parked next to it that were alight (or so I believe). I also believe no one was injured. And it takes a very long time for the fire fighters to do their job. Infact I didn't get back to sleep properly at all as they leave the fire engines going the whole time, and they have noisey engines and the lights flashing, all this right outside my bedroom window.

I hope that the people who lived in that house didn't lose too much precious stuff.

I really should change my profile image, as that picture, believe it or not, is actually of David Hasselhoff and not of me at all. Sorry David! I don't condone people trying to make others believe they are in someway affiliated with the Hoff when they are not. You know who you are ;-)

Don't have much to write. It's Amy's birthday tomorrow! The big 21! Happy Birthday for tomorrow Amy! And today marks the end of my week long stay back at home keeping Amy company. It's been a good week, we didn't really even argue at all which is not like us. Apart from me refusing to answer her questions. Also she didn't ask me any this morning!! Well done Ame!

Workmates

Lara requested me to do little intros on the people I work with. Oh first for those who don't know I work at Jade Software Corporation as a programmer, my official title is "Jade Scholar" which just means I'm only just out of uni and don't get paid very much. But I love my job so much! I actually do quite a mixture of programming and admin work (eg tracking bugs etc) and liasoning with the customer. My team makes software for a frieght company in Britian, when I started we had quite a small team (I was the fifth person) but now we're up to 8 which I guess is still small really. I have been working here since I finished my honours degree in Computer Science last year (quite literally, my first day of work was the day after I handed in my project), however I did get a week long holiday after the first couple of days.

I really don't work with many people so I thought I'd do them all at once! In order of who I have most contact with:

Earl: Earl is another Canterbury graduate, he started a few months after me, and lives in the office next door to mine. My job changed dramatically once he started as I had someone nice to talk to! We always go and ask each other first when we get stuck on something, and also if we're really bored. Earl is from a farm near Nelson somewhere well that's where his Mum lives, and I don't know much more about him and he's good to talk to about movies etc.

Colin: Is my manager. He's really nice. I don't know how old he is, Earl's the only one who I have any idea about really. Colin is going to England with me, and he's from England orignally. He's extremely atheletic, apparently a very good runner, and he lives in Rangiora and occasionally bikes in from there. Colin has a very cute family, a wife and two set of twin girls! Very blonde ones!

Pieter: Is new to my team but old to Jade. He's in the office of the other side of me. Again I have no idea how old he is, they're all about 35-50 I think. Except Shiree, I know she's in her very early 30s as she had a birthday shout. Anyway Pieter is also very nice and is also a great runner. I should try and get some running tips from them!

Graeme: Graeme and I were the only ones on this floor in our team for awhile, so when I started he was the lucky one who was continually harrassed by me trying to learn jade, but he was very helpful. He's a great programmer and always has good advice. Graeme has a very cute new baby girl, and he's really into sports, the ones I know of are mountain biking, paddling (not sure if it's canoes or kayaks) and extreme skiing. Oh Graeme is also quite funny and has a great laugh!

Shiree: Shiree is another girl! Yay! Shiree is lovely, and very helpful. She's also sporty... it seems everyone in our team is! I think she plays netball, I remember her limping around on a sprained ankle due to a netball injury sometime ago.

Simon: Is downstairs with Shiree, Colin and Victor. Simon also loves Stargate (!!!) and he's shared the whole first season of Stargate Atlantis with me. Simon is very clever (in my opinion) and he has a new(ish) wife and their wedding photos looked beautiful! Also I find Simon hilarious! He's always making funny jokes in our meetings and cracking us all up!

Victor: Victor has been on our team for awhile, but working on a different project to me so I haven't worked with him too much. But he is very nice.

There you go Lara!

Amy

Well, I have sad news. In the last, say 12 hours I've found out my beloved little sister Amy has a problem. I'm surprised I've never noticed this before! But, despite being practically a genius and winning all kinds of scholarships and what not, and almost having completed an honours degree in Economics, Amy, bless her wee soul, cannot think for herself. Honestly that girl must have asked me 50+ questions since I got home from work yesterday!

I started noticing it while we were making earrings last night. Now you all know me, I'm not actually a jeweller by trade, and I haven't even made more than one pair of earring before. However, despite the fact that Amy has a head on her shoulders at least as good as mine she ran everything past me before doing it, and asked me how to do everything! I don't know! I just make it up as I go along! It's not rocket science!

This morning I reached my breaking point, I know it didn't take long. And when she asked me whether or not she should put her earrings on before biking to uni, or once she got to uni, or during the day at uni I snapped. I am now not answering any of her questions. Sorry Ame, you're a smart girl, you can figure these things out for yourself! Love you though...

Cake

Cake003
This is the cake Andrew and I made Kirsty for her birthday. Isn't it wonderful?

Anyway Kirsty's birthday was fun. We went to Cobb & Co and got kiddies cocktails and Cobb Crunchies.

On Saturday I got sunburnt! Yeah I know! Suburnt! Anyway then I started feeling sick, I've been sniffly for days but I started feeling really rotten so we didn't make it to Rach and Greg's house warming which was sad. Darren has been really sick for awhile, but on Saturday night and Sunday was the sickest I've seen him. But the silly boy said he wasn't going to take today off work because he felt he'd already had enough days off. I don't think he has actually because his year started May and he hasn't had that many since May. But anyway I hope he did take a day off because he really needs it.

Also I'm back staying at home while Mum and Dad and Claire are away to keep Amy company. This is great because I can have a heater on just before I go to sleep :-) Plus it's nice to see Amy lots.

Friday!!

Hi Everybody!

I didn't post yesterday. Did anyone notice... I'm guessing yes.... but I'm not sure anyone really cared. But that's a-ok!

ATT8447034

Anyway isn't this picture funny? It takes a second to figure out what's wrong though, but once you do... classic! My Mum sent it to me. It's pretty cool because now Mum's on email at her new school so I get emails from her quite a lot.

So I don't have much to report except for....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KIRSTY!

me
This is a photo of Kirsty that I'm sure she wants published over the internet. I didn't exactly ask her permission... but she never forbid me. So that's pretty much the same thing. So it's Kirsty's birthday today so I'm very very very very excited. This is the first time I've ever had a flatmate who has had a birthday! (This may seem a very interesting fact, but not so much when you realise that KIrsty and Andrew are the only flatmates I've ever had and Kirsty's birthday is now and Andrews November. So anyway). Today is going to be a great day because it's Kirsty's birthday. And we're going out for tea! Yay!

Also this weekend is Rach and Greg's house warming. So that'll be fun! It's nice having friends that are both mine and Darren's. Like I love Darren's friends and get on really well with them, but sometimes he needs time with them without me there which is understandable, and often when I'm catching up with my friends it's nice if he's not there so we don't have to feel bad about talking about you know "old times". But yeah Rach has been my friends for AGES, and Greg is Darren's boss so it'll be a good night.

Bye

No Questions Today!

Sorry I'm not answering any questions today. If anyone has any urgent problems they need advice with, then I suggest you direct them to Adam and Nick via their webpage :-) Hehe.

I don't have much to say. Darren came with me to Fen and Klava's last night and we watched survivor and had delicious smoothies. They were great! Also they have an interesting policy at my work that you only need 5 out of 6 lightbulbs going. I was down to 2 out of 6 yesterday and then the lightbulb replacement man came round, and fixed it so I now have 5. Obviously 5 must be good enough. Well it is really, but it's still a bit strange to see most offices only have 5 good bulbs.

Anyway the sun is here today! Woo!

More Snow Fun!!

This is Kirsty in what can only be described as a "look at me I'm gorgeous" pose.

Kirsty just about to find out the consequences of such a pose!

Sibling bonding... awwww.

Kirsty making out with her new boyfriend. And for some reason it looks like she's groping his breasts too.

Their finished snowman!

Awww Kirsty and her friend... who I think needs a name really!

Also Kirsty threw a snowball at me and I was inside and she was outside and it hit me in the eye! I must say it was quite a feat! Also!!! The astute of you may have noticed that O'Neill actually plays the important role in this story as the nose of the snowman! He spent the whole night outside too!

Snow Round Darren's House

My sexy car making out with Darren's (actually) sexy car.

Yay!!!

Oh my gosh I'm so excited! Adam has also answered the questions I sent him and Nick the other day. I must say I've been cracking up, some very funny answers in there. You should all know their site off by heart but if you still don't go here. But most exciting is Adam said his favourite some beginning with the letter J is Judith by A Perfect Circle and that was the song I was listening to at that exact moment when I read it! How freaky is that!!!

Also if Adam's pirate talk is confusing or scaring you (toughen up Andrew!) you may like to bear in mind that it is international talk like a pirate day today!

Snow!!!

A pretty magnolia outside Earl's office.

View from Graeme's office.

Look at my poor wee car! (It's second from the left)

View from my office.

There's nothing like snow to make you realise just how young you really are deep down inside. I'm way to young to sit inside working all day while it's snowing SO much outside and it looks so beautiful and fun to play in!!

Anyway for those of you outside Chch or NZ we have this little system here that just when everyone finally thinks it's spring, and all the wee lambs have been born and all the spring flowers are up then it'll snow tons for one dy or maybe two. And believe me when it only snows for a single day once a year it's pretty bloody exciting really!

Anyway here's a pretty bad picture but you can see some snow on the ground I'll post some more this afternoon too. And poor Darren is sick in bed today he was all feverish and shivering last night, so I hope he feels better over the course of the day.

Gold Star for Nick!

Huge ups to Nick for answering all 85 questions I sent him yesterday, check out his site here Adam and Nick's Page or by using the link to the left, and look at the Ask Us section!

Worth reading while you're there is Adam's election guide, there's currently three very informative parts. :-) Awesome work guys!

Well

I wasn't sure if I'd have time to write today, as it's already 8.33, but our systems are down at work so I can't even start my work anyway! Well there's stuff I can do and I'll do it soon :-)

Anyway I had the WEIRDEST dream last night. I looked completely different, I think I was like 8 or something, with dark hair. But here's the strange part, I had a huge bald spot on top - just like a man would. So anyway in my dream I was getting ready to go somewhere are trying to do my hair which wasn't looking great due to the bald spot. Anyway I had the bright idea to put it in a pny tail to cover up the bald spot - now this wouldn't work in real life unless you had hair at the front of your head, which I didn't, but this wasn't real life it was a dream and so it worked. Although I had to spend quite some time looking for a bobble.

Anyway had a nice evening last night, my first at home in AGES. I just did lots of work and relaxing and had a bath and it was splendid. Plus Andrew and I had delicious fish and chips for tea. Mmmm.

More Answers

1. Why is having work to do and not doing it so much more satisfying than not having anything to do? (BHN)

Because you're such a lazy bugger Nick! Actually because if you have stuff to do and you're not doing it then it feels a lot more like resting, you're having a break (however unneeded and long it may be) from work, just because there's work there to do. If you don't have work you don't really feel like you're having a break.

2. Is golf a sport? (BHN)

Yes. I'm basing this on the fact that generally I'm bad at sport, and I'm bad at golf therefore golf must be a sport.

3. Who really runs the UN? (BHN)

I have my suspicions that it' actually Adam.

4. Who really runs the US for that matter, as GW couldn't run a lift. (BHN)

The go'uld.

5. Why is the ocean blue if the water is colourless? (BHN)

Water is reflective and the sky is blue. So the sea just reflects the sky.

6. Do sheep shrink when it rains? (BHN)

Yes a little.

7. Would there be more water in the ocean if there weren't so many spounges? (BHN)

Well no. The water is in the sponges, and the sponges are in the ocean, so the water is still indirectly in the ocean.

8. The ball is saturday week and is $30, do you still want to go? (BHN)

I still want to go, but unfortunately I've got something on.

9. Would you go as an little angle or devil? (BHN)

Actually I'd go as god.

10. Why are older people so nice, but old people generally so mean? (BHN)

What old people are you talking about? All the old people I know are lovely!

11. What is your favourate hair colour? (BHN)

Dark brown... actually kind of like yours!

12. Have you ever snorted anything? (BHN)

No.

13. Can you do the robot? (BHN)

No, so that probably means it's a sport too!

14. Whats your favourate type of cheese? (BHN)

Edam. (Boring huh?)

15. Why do people like the taste of cheese that smells like puke? (BHN)

Because despite it smellingl ike puke, it doesn't actually taste like puke.

16. What was your best piece of artwork? (BHN)

Possibly the gift I made for Lara for her 21st, it was a sort of book cover thing, made of wood, and it had a stained glass window effect. Hard to describe. I also like the painting I did earlier this year.

17. Have you ever written something that your really proud of and then editted it years later because it was crap? (BHN)

No everything I'd written is awesome! ;-)

Nothing that I'd repeat here!

22. Do vegetables have feelings? (BHN)

Of course!

23. Why do people stay in relationships when they don't particularily like the person they are with? (BHN)

Tons of reasons, sex, companionship, um fear of being alone.

24. Hows your day going? (BHN)

Actually I've been a little down this whole week.

25. I'm starting to think computere programming is boring. Should I quit this profession and join the army? (Adam)

Nah. The army sucks. There's too many guys there, pick a profession where there's a decent number of chicks.

26. Should I join the circus?!! (Adam)

Yes! That's a much better option.

27. Why does Nick smell like a rotten fish? (Adam)

He doesn't actually. It's just that when he's just about to see you he rushes out, grabs his rotten fish, and rubs it all over his body. The reason he does this is because he is quite clearly insane.

28. What is your favourite movie beginning with the letter S? (Adam)

Ummm... errr... tough one...Strictly Ballroom!

29. Does China really have as many people as they claim or are they counting some of the people twice? (Adam)

They really do! I've counted them. Twice. Not as in I counted some of the people and added them to my total twice. But I counted everyone. Then worked out the totaly then went round again to double check.

30. Who do you prefer out of Sean Penn and Sean Bean? (Adam)

Well, I dunno really. Sean Penn is great in movies but I don't think I'd like to meet him in real life, but the same goes with Sean Bean. But Sean Bean is a very cool name so I'm going with that!

31. Why do teenagers wear caps and beanies a lot? (Adam)

Probably to hide zits they've got on their forehead.

32. If you hat a choice between kicking your cat or chopping off one of Nick's fingers, what would you do? (Adam)

Pass

Answers

1. Why do you think Jonny Depp decided to play an androgenous willy wonka? (BHN)

Because it was an interesting and challenging role, a role his children would be excited and proud of, and because he's damn good at that kind of role! (Eg Ed Wood).

2. Do you think getting a university degree or learning a trade is the better option? (BHN)

Neither is a better option. It depends entirely on the person. Like a University Degree was better for me at the time, and I'm glad I got it, but Darren's doing his building apprenticeship and that's better for him. Also I will probably change careers later in my life and learn a trade then.

3. What is your favourate line(s) from a kiwi song, a pop song, a rock song and a RHCP song? (BHN)

I can't guarantee these are my all-time favourites, more like a snap shot of right now.

Kiwi song: "Let do the time warp again"
Pop song: "All day long I dream about sex, and all night long I think about sex, and all the time I think about sex with you, with you" HAHAHA I love that song!
Rock song: "I'm already cut up and half dead... I'll end up alone like I began..."
RHCP song: So so so so many... but a random one: "Missionary maddness, sweep a culture with a broom, trashing ancient ways, is par for the course, it’s fucking rude"

4. Who would win between John Candy and Marlin Brando in a fight in hell? (BHN)

Well neither would be in hell, but probably Brando just because he's meaner. Well can be meaner...

5. What would your plan be for 15 million dollars if you had won the powerball? (BHN)

Well I don't have a plan. It's hard to know. Most of it would be definitely be put into saving, or invested. Some would definitely be given away to charities and family and friends. My student loan would be paid off. I would buy a new car too. I definitely wouldn't quit work though and I'd try not to improve my lifestyle, but just stick to all the same plans I have now.

6. How does Karma work in your opinion? (BHN)

I'm not sure it does work, as some horrible things happen to such lovely people. My Granddad is one of the sweetest nicest people in the world and he's lost two wives, and now he has cancer... I mean that's one of squillions of examples. I think in general we should all just be as kind as we can, and treat other people the way we want to be treated and if you go through life and are able to do that most of the time then you've done pretty well.

7. Is there a god, and whats your impression of religion in general? (BHN)

Haha well I don't think there's a god, and religion well, um in general I am sickened by the atrocities that have been carried out in the names of organised religions, but at the same time religion has given a lot of people support and hope in times when they have nothing else. So it's not entirely bad.

8. Why am i the only person to ask you questions all the time? (BHN)

Dunno. Maybe you're the only one who is interested in my opinion. Maybe everyone else is too busy working. Adam asked lots of questions today though!

9. What is your favourate non-RHCP song at the moment? (BHN)

Corduroy by Pearl Jam.

10. Who is your favourate singer?(apart from Anthony from RHCP) (BHN)

Oh Anthony isn't my favourite singer, he's my favourite lyricist though. I have so many favourite singers... so many singers I love listening to, but probably my all time favourite is Robert Plant from Led Zeppelin.

11. Whats better School or work? (BHN)

School was great at the time, I wouldn't replace my time at school with anything, but work is great now! Uni was also a struggle but I'm so glad I did it, and wouldn't have done it any different, but I don't think I'll ever go back.

12. If you had to work in a city outside of CHCH which would it be? (BHN)

Umm don't know. Anywhere in New Zealand wouldn't be too bad. Maybe somewhere warmer like Nelson or I guess just anywhere I have friends (like Wellington and Auckland).

13. Does something have to be Phallic to be flaccid? (BHN)

No, I don't think so.

14. Who shot JR? (BHN)

Who is JR?

15. If Oswald was a Pattsy why did Jack Ruby shoot him? (BHN)

Who is Oswald and who is Jack Ruby?

16. Why do seals have a segmented sternum? (BHN)

Probably to help them bend in seal-like ways.

17. Now lets change the fight to the death to between John Goodman and Meatloaf. (BHN)

Meatloaf... coz he's pretty good with a chainsaw in the Rocky Horror show. Or is he the one who's killed with a chainsaw... oh yeah I think he gets killed with a chainsaw. Um still Meatlof tho because he's been to fightclub.

18. Do you find way more people attractive now than when you were a teenager? (BHN)

Nah not really, when I was a teenager I thought 16 year old were attractive, and also older people, now I'm older I don't find 16 year olds attractive anymore.

19. Why is it that mens fashion is boring and ultimately ugly in comparison to womens? (BHN)

Maybe just because no matter how hard they try women will always be the more beautiful creatures, so people have never put as much effort into mens clothing.

20. Do you think men compensate for the apparent lack of good clothing by going to the gym? (BHN)

I guess some do, but tons of women go to gyms as well!

21. Why is it that one smile can make your day?

Because it shows you that humans can be alright and human nature isn't ultimately all screwed up, some people are kind and nice.

22. Why is it that life seems to want to continually kick you in the stomach for weeks on end no matter how optimistic you are that it will all just work out? (BHN)

Not sure Nick, it doesn't happen to me.

23. Who was your favourate Ninja Turtle? (BHN)

Donatello

24. If you had to cheat on Darren with a member of RHCP who would it be? (BHN)

John!!!!

25. Why is a smile the sexiest thing someone can do? (BHN)

I think because it can say so much, and it can show love, and approval and desire... and this might be silly but a genuine smile can make you feel safe.

26. Why do people change when they get into relationships with certain people and not with others? (BHN)

I guess that's the different nature of different relationships. Some relationships can make people change in good ways (inspire them to be the best they can), some can make people change in bad ways (ie with a dominating bossy partner), and some don't make people change at all. It's just how people react to different personalities.

27. Is it still wrong to laugh at someone else's misfortune even if it's really, really funny? (Adam)

No of course not! Unless they're dead or something like that.

28. What steps should we be taking to prevent the rise of communism in New Zealand? (Adam)

Oh I'm a communist at heart, so I think we should be taking steps to ensure that New Zealand becomes the first communist society in the world that reaches the whole way to the last of Marx's stages of communism (I think there were 5 or 7 stages or something like that), and can successfully operate in today's predominantly capitalist world.

29. How does Santa get into houses without chimneys? (Adam)

Oh he is very good at getting through windows too. He has a reformed burglar that travels round with him, and helps him break into the houses.

30. Why is it you can be in a good or bad mood completely regardless of anything that's actually happened? (Adam)

I think it's to do with chemicals in the brain, or maybe stuff you've been thinking about subconsciously. Plus sometimes if your co-workers are aliens they are using mind-control techniques on you they can influence your mood without you knowing.

31. Walruses? (Adam)

Yes Walruses.

32. I swallowed a really big paper clip when I was seven, do you think it's still there? (Adam)

No.

33. How can I test to see if my co-workers are aliens? (Adam)

Well if I've learnt anything from movies it's that aliens are allergic to water or tiny bacteria, so I think you should fill a glass, spit in it a little then tip it over them. If they survive then they're probably not aliens.

34. I'm feeling a little sad today, why is that? (Adam)

Possibly because you're worried about the fact your co-workers may be aliens.

35. What time of the day is the best time to sneeze? (Adam)

3.23pm

36. I bought some shower gel to take to the gym so I wouldn't have to worry about any soap related shower incidents. But the stuff says it contains extra oxygen and I'm worried that I might be getting too much. How do I know if I'm getting too much oxygen? (Adam)

Easy. Stand up (DO IT!) Now take 10 really deep breaths, in deeply then at the end of the breath breathe in sharply to get as much as you can in, then breath out normally. Doing this 10 times in a row should make you feel at least a little bit weird, maybe a but light headed. If you feel like that after your shower then you're obviously getting too much oxygen and should consider returning to regular shower gel.

37. How come identical twins never look identical? (BHN)

Sometimes they do!

38. Why isn't water blue when its in a cup? (BHN)

Because water isn't blue! (Really Nick! Water is see-through or whatever the techincal term for see through is).

39. Why can't some people appoligies for what they have done wrong? (BHN)

I have NO IDEA! It makes me so mad though! Some people just can't apologise... it's insane. I apologise though, I'm good at it.

40. Why is it that some weeks nothing can phase you and others every little thing pisses you off? (BHN)

Maybe it's your time of the month Nick :-)

41. What is the best way to get to sleep? (BHN)

Thinking about happy things. Falling asleep happy and warm and comfy is the best!

42. Do you think its better to sleep on your sides or on your back/front? (BHN)

I do both... mostly on my side though. When you fall asleep hugging someone the side is the only way to go really.

43. Which side? (or back/front) (BHN)

Front.

44. What is your favourate colour and why? (BHN)

Deep red, a purply red. I'm not sure why.... I think it's an attractive colour.

45. What is the difference between politics and a popularity contest? (BHN)

Hmmmm I think you should ask Adam... he's the election expert. Although I'm worried his cynical view of the five parties he's done was influenced strongly by his low mood ;-)

46. Who is the best super hero ever? (BHN)

After seeing Batman begins I'd have to say batman... although he's not really a super hero is he as he doesn't have super powers? In that case i guess superman! The name says it all, plus he was hot.

47. What is your optimal temperature to do work at? (BHN)

This current temperature.

48. Why are women (who are ment to be so much more sensitive than men) so evil? (BHN)

Well men are mean too, but I think what makes women evil and men just mean is that women think and analyse things a lot more than men, so any nasty or manipulative thing appears to be more thought out and purposeful.

49. Which historical figure would you like to fight? (BHN)

No one! I wouldn't like to fight anyone!

50. Whats with you and guys with long hair? (BHN)

It's just sexy ok? Also if a guy can be comfortable enough to display predominantly feminine characteristics (like long healthy hair) and they are straight then that's just shows they are so comfortable with their masculinity and aren't trying to prove anything, and don't feel they have to.

51. What do you think are the qualities of a great teacher? (BHN)

Being able to understand questions. Being able to understand how some concepts are hard to grasp, some skills aren't natural for everyone. Being confident, approachable, friendly.

52. Whats your favourate billy idol song? (BHN)

Hot in the City

53. Do you want to come to the Heaven and Hell ball i'm organising? (BHN)

Yes but it will depend when it is, I'm quite busy over the next month :-)

Bradley

Hello Everyone!

This is Bradley, Kirsty's cat. You may remember his lewd comments on the blog during it's first few weeks. Anyway he's a very lovely friendly cat. He is also very cute. Especially his wee little paws. This became apparent to me this morning when my door wasn't shut and he came into my room and did his usual route. He jumps up onto my desk then on top of my computer montior, then onto my stereo (which always makes that creaking sound that some electronics make when shifted) then sneaks down behind the curtain and then behind the blinds. He stepped over my shoes which for some reason are on my window sill, then he settled down to watch the outside world (my room in street facing). Then I realised how cute his paws are.

But why I'm really writing about Bradley is because his tail bore an uncanny similarity to that little worm on Seasame Street, you know Oscar's friend. I was sitting there watching his ong tail, and it's incredble how much he actually moves it. Then I imagined it had a life of it's own and it became quite amusing. Also I loved that little worm, I thought it was so cute. And Bradley's tail does bear a lot of similarities. They were both orange. They both have stripes (although Bradley's are kind of cream, and I think the worm was red, or something), and they are both kind of lng and skinny.

Anyway maybe I'm mad. Probably. My point remains though, Bradley is cute.

Charlie and the Choclate Factory

Was an absolutely wonderful movie. In so many ways. However, I will say it's one of those awesome awesome movies that won't be appreciated by everyone. I guess because of it's kookiness. Apparently this version was very true to the book... which I have read but I figured out I waas probably 9 when I read it which was quite a few years ago now so I can't really remember. But anyway I'm not sure if the brilliant humour can be credited to Tim Burton, Johnny Depp or Roald Dahl... I suspect mostly the latter with some credit to the first two. Now that I've actually been forced to spell it I've realised Roald Dahl has a very strange name doesn't he?

Anyway my weekend was good. It mostly involved sleeping. I'm not quite sure why, but I'm not complaining. I was also very busy working on various birthday presents.

Ok well have a nice Monday!

Music

Well... it finally happened. Bloody took it's time though. Many of you might know the two questions I asked Darren before agreeing to give him my phone number were:

1) Do you drive?
2) Do you hate the Red Hot Chili Peppers?

The second question being of special importance because I personally have a special bond with their music, you may even say I am a "fan". And like I've also mentioned here music has played such important role at times of my past, especially the Red Hot Chili Peppers music that it would just be impractical for me to be with someone who couldn't stand listening to it. So mostly it's just a practicality issue.

Happily Darren didn't hate the Chili Peppers.

So we start going out, I get a little idea of what his tastes are... not too bad, a big Soundgarden fan, well gotta respect that. So when we've been going out quite awhile and I decide to make a nice gesture and start getting into Soundgarden a little, buy one of their albums, check out their videos etc. Without wanting to push anything too much I make him a mix cd of some Chilis song I think he'll like. But it doesn't play in his car. So that idea was thwarted.

I let things sit for a few more months. Then after we've been together for about year I buy him the Red Hot Chili Peppers Californication CD. Now Darren was not over the moon to get this CD, understandably I think he felt a lot of pressure to listen to it and love it. So after mentioning a couple of times that he should put it in his car and he still doesn't I just drop the matter.

Then out of the blue of his own accord a few weeks ago he puts the CD in his car and starts listening to it. This is about 9 months after I got it for him. Now I have learnt just not to pressure him, so I don't even act very interested when I hear he's got it in his car. Then a week later he's wanting to talk to me about his favourite songs off the album (Easily and Right On Time, good choices), then over the weekend he asks me if he can borrow another one of their albums! I mention he might find Anthony's biography an interesting read as well, and get a positive response from him! Woo! Something exciting has started here!

So it took it's time. But I maintain everyone love the Red Hot Chili Peppers most people just don't know it yet.

Share a Joke

You guys can all share your jokes today if you like.

And you'll be impressed, and glad to hear that I did cut my travel time down on my way home to 35 minutes, and that wasn't even taking the shortest route, as I forgot to take the map I'd prepared myself with me so I was really just guessing. I'm all psyched to walk again, it's nice having peaceful alone time, and very pleasant walking round the back streets,k but alas it's raining today, also my shins and feet are killing me. I'm notsure what's wrong with my shins they were sore before yesterday's walk, but my feet are because of the shoes I wore walking yesterday.

Ok well hopefully I'll go see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory tonight. I think my flatmates and Amy are going to see some movie which they refer to as Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, but I've never heard of that! We've cancelled dinner as a flat anyway and are going to eat Willy Wonka bars instead.

Which brings me to another point. I love my Dad, and he loves me. Last night I desperately needed some chocolate (you know how it goes) and I knew that my Dad loves me so much he'd bring me some. Now I told Andrew this, and he was doubtful, but we made a bet (without actually putting any money or anything on it) that I could get my Dad to come round and deliver chocolate. So I rang Dad up and told him my chocolate situation, now he didn't actually say he'd bring me chocolate in fact he told me the opposite, but I knew he cares about me so much that before I went to bed that night he'd have been round with a chocolate bar. And I was right. At 9.30ish lo and behold Claire comes walking through my door delivering a bar of chocolate. Thanks Dad!! If anyone out there thinks I'm at all nice or kind then you can see why I get it from my wonderful family.

1. Why do Nick's questions always seem to involve him hating women? (Adam)

Hi Adam. This is indeed a good question. And I have a theory regarding this phenomenon. Firstly I would like to point you to notice that not actually all of Nick's questions are about hating women as such, some are quite the opposite. For example you may recall a past question where Nick wondered why women always smell so good. Also the questions where Nick appears to hate women are basically relating to women's behaviour that is somewhat confusing to him. I would like to suggest that Nick doesn't actually hate women. Just that he thinks they are confusing and a lot of work and they smell nice. In other words he wants a shag.

(Also I think he's trying to make women face up to their own irrational behaviour, and targeting my ask Mindy as a forum to do so).

Maybe Nick could comment if I am way off base with this response.

2. What do you do if someone wished you happy birthday and you want to do the same for them, but you only know the month in which they were born, and a rough idea of the day? (LaraCroft)

Hi Lara, this really is a pickle. What I would do is just ask them... say something like "What day was your birthday again? May 5th?" Where you substitute in the month and your guess of the day. I think this is fine, and I use this method all the time to ask Kirsty when her birthday is. If you don't want to be so direct see if you can find out from someone else who knows them, or sneakily try and look at their driver's license etc.

3. Mindy, Why do you think it is that Adam has never had a girlfriend of his own? (BHN)

Dear BHN, well you know what I think? I think the reason is that Adam hasn't asked enough girls. Surely any girls who he had asked wouldn't be able to refuse, so it stands that he hasn't therefore asked anyone out, or if he has they were whack. Also he does computer science and in general there's not that many girls who do so that means less chance of meeting someone through uni or work.

Interestings Things

Here are some interesting things for you:

  • This is ugliest car I have ever seen in real life that actual people own, I saw someone driving it on the way to work yesterday and by gum it was bad. It looks worse in real life trust me:

  • This car also has a silly name... mutipla... what the hell does that mean? Does anyone know?
  • I walked to work this morning, for the first time ever it took me a solid 40 minutes. I'm going to experiment with my route on the way home, see if I can knock it down to 35.
  • Andrew wants to do Willy Wonka (see yesterday's comments).
  • A hippopoutmus can run faster than a man, I'm assuming faster than a woman as well but my source didn't specify.
  • There are now only two member of the ulong tribe in survivor so they will have to merge next week, unless of course one of them agrees to vote for themself! Haha as if!
  • In standard 4 we had elections for a class president and Rebecca Hanson and I agreed we'd vote for each other, but she didn't she voted for herself and I lost the election by 1 vote! Although I don't think it was her who won, but still...
  • A snail can sleep for three years!

Have a nice day!

Amy's Birthday

Hello everyone!

Amy is having a murder mystery for her 21st birthday party. Isn't that awesome? That's why I asked if I could be a princess or a whore yesterday. I'm not sure what would suit me better, because really there's a little of both in me. Hehe.

Anyway I'm so very very excited about Amy's birthday! She has delivered most of her invitations I believe. They were delivered message in a bottle style, with a very cool pirate looking invitation within (along with some sand, shells, glittery stars etc). One reason I'm so excited is because I only realised last night that I'll actually be able to make it! I am due to leave Doncaster, England on Thursday evening, which should mean I'll arrive back here in Christchurch Saturday midday, in time for her party at 7.30pm! Now I'm not saying I won't be completely buggered and jet-lagged because I will be. Although maybe that'll just make me a better party goer, because I'll still be on England time, and that'll be like 8.30 in the morning, so I might be extra hyped and engergetic!

Also I'm excited because I started Amy's present in the weekend. Which for obvious reasons I can't tell you what it is. But anyway before I started I hadn't really planned it at all or anything, and I had no idea how long it was going to take, but now I've actually started and have a firm plan I can see I'll definitely get it done and I'm so pysched about it! Actually on Sunday night I woke up in the middle of the night after dreaming a really good idea for it.

And today I going to the doctor. To hopefully get some more asthma medication. Which is good, because it helps me breathe, which I'm finding especially difficult with the coming of spring and hayfevery type symptoms, but it's bad because it costs so much money to go to the doctor. And I have to pay my bill from last time I was there as well, so it'll be like forking out $100 in one go! Oh well, that's life. I reogranised my budget yesterday to account for my UK trip, as I figure I'll need extra spending money especially as I also dreamed on Sunday night that I found this really awesome pair of jeans over there. Actually this is really geeky but what I'd really like to buy over there is some material, as I'm pretty much over the selection in the few fabric shops in Christchurch. That would be superb! I'll have to find out from Kirsty if she knows of any good fabric shops in London, there's bound to be at least one!

Also I've found the ugliest car in the world, I'll try and get a picture for tomorrow.

Love to all,

Unfit

Also this comic is SO funny check it out... I love Friday's strip:

Friday's Unfit

Well...

Just because I know you're all depserately waiting to find out. Yes I did go to the gym on Friday afternoon. And I went and I worked really hard and so I'm not as lazy as I thought I was, which is pleasantly surprising.

Also as you might have gathered, I finally saw Sin City. Now as I predicted I really really loved this movie. I thought it was brilliant. And yes I am biased. But still I thought it was great. Apart from when the blood was white, because then it just looked like birdshit, but apart from that, genius!

No other news of great consequence. I also saw Starsky and Hutch which was good but not great, and definitely no Dodgeball (which incase you haven't hear is a movie which I thought was wonderful!) Saw the family briefly on Sunday night which was nice, it's been a while since the "Marshall" clan has got topgether.

Hope you had awonderful weekend!

ps I just worked out last night I will actually be here for Amy's birthday... very tired and jet lagged probably but in Chch! Woo!

pps Happy Birthday Lara!!!

Nothing much to say

Hi there,

Don't really have much to say. I changed the picture on my profile. Hahaha. Well I think it's funny.

Today is the 2nd of September... so that means in one month I'll be going to England. So much stuff to do before then! Mostly regarding Amy's birthday present. I'll have to try and have a productive weekend I think.

Last night I watched half of Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, which I've seen numerous times before. Isn't it a great movie? Tonight I'm going to watch the end of it, and then watch the Patriot which I've never seen.

Work today is going to be a struggle... mostly because we're releasing a cut on Monday which means today is dedicated to testing. 8 hours of testing... which is ok, it just requires you to be very self-motivated which will be difficult for Friday, esp in the afternoon.

Nothing much else happening in my life, I've got a new program at the gym which is going ok, plus I"m going to start really focussing on my running for no specific reason, just that I like it.

Have a nice day!

Visa

Hello first order of business, ask Mindy day is taking a break this week as I'll be quite busy at work today. Unless of course you don't m ind waiting till tomorrow's post for the answers.

Second order of business. Andrew and I were wondering why visa (as in the card) and visa (as in what you need to travel/work in foreign countries) had the same name.... ie what does "visa" actually mean? Any ideas/suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thirdly I have decided it takes 2 hours of Survivor to become hooked to series, I watched it last week and I watched it this week, and now I have to know what happens. Luckily it won't be hard for me to find out.

Lastly I just worked out it costs me 15c a kilometre in petrol for my car or $1.41 a day to get to and from work. Which isn't really that bad... cheaper than busing still. And it costs me $3 to get to and from Fenia's house. So I'm still ok with driving for awhile at least.

Have a nice day :-)

How Rude

All I want to say today is that I think people who overtake you because you are doing 55 in a 50 zone are very rude. If someone is already going 5ks over the speed limit you really shouldn't need to overtake them.

Also Amy I hope your ears are feeling better.

Going to England (maybe)

Hey Everyone! Guess what I'm going to England (maybe). The reason I have to add maybe all the time is because it may all fall through. But at the moment the plan is for me to go! Woo!

Ok so at work I work for a team who works on a Train Planning Tool (amongst other applications) for a freight train company in England - EWS - who happen to be the largest freight train company over there with about 70% of the market. But anyway due to some work coming up I get to go over with Colin my manager to Doncaster. Which is apparently the biggest hole in the universe, but I don't care, also I don't believe it. And also apparently it's going to be horrid weather. But again I don't care.

Part of my job involves lots of communicating with some of the people at EWS and it will be really interesting, and fun to meet them. Also to see how they use our app. And things like that. I may even get to ride on a train.

I have never been to England. The furtherest I've ever been is Minnesota, which is still a lot closer than England. I hope no one explodes me with a bomb. I think I'll be ok. I hope my Mum doesn't worry that someone is going to explode me. Anyway.

Quotation

I'd like to start my blog today with a Quotation:

"Isn't life just so great? " - Adam

Yes Adam, yes it is. However, last time I claimed a similar thing the week following I had the week from hell... so be careful not to appear too happy at all times because someone somewhere may just decide you are a little too happy and try to ruin your life. So to be sure just for good measure try and frown at least twice a day.

Now I would like to talk about the word "Quote" and the word "Quotation". Now as most of you know "Quotation" is a noun. This means you can say things like

"Quotation of the day" or
"I have a quotation for you" or
"Could you please give me a quotation"

etc. Not that any of those things are particularly useful things to say. But you get my point. Now what most of the godamn world don't seem to realise is the word "Quote" is NOT a noun. Not at all! Not in the slightest. Therefore it makes no sense (if you're speaking English) to say

"Quote of the day" or
"I know ten Hamlet quotes"

Quote is a VERB! Eg "I am going quote Hamlet".

Now I know that I have a love quote of the day on right here on Kook Central. This is absolutely appaling. But I can't do anything about it sorry as it all just comes automatically from a quotation site. I'm so sorry. I really wish it would say quotation instead of quote.

But yeah anyway if any of you have learned something today I will be very happy.

1. Why is it that women smell SO much better than men? Even when they are sweaty and feral they smell better than any man. (BHN)
I think it's just because women are generally much better than men in every single way. They are also much better looking. But in terms of a "real" answer I have no idea.

2. Why is it that no one can name a single female actress that would make them go and see a film, yet can name half a dozen of male actors? (BHN)
That is an excellent excellent point. I have never considered that before. I think it just generally demostrates that although women actors are becoming more equal in pay to their male counterparts (although not equal yet by any means) they are still just generally less respected. I think this is a trend that is beginning to change, and I think it will continue to do so. Well I hope so anyway. For example I would probably go and see a movie just because Angelina Jolie is in it, or maybe Susan Sarandon.

3. What is the best thing about not living at home anymore? (as i live at home still i do not know) (BHN)
Cheesecake! And lots of it. Honestly though for me the best thing about not living at home is not worrying my parents anymore. I think they worried about me too much when I was at home, and now they don't really have concrete incidents to worry about. Also I did get on with my family before, but like all families we had our moments, fights, yelling etc. There's none of that now, everytime I see them it's all good, and I think I appreciate them more. Aww aren't I soppy.

4. What is your favourate type of sex from the following and why?Angry, Romantic, Funny, Snuggly, Adventurous, Athletic, Kinky or Surprise (BHN)
Um I would have to say all of the above. They definitely all have their moments. I think Romantic is the most memorable type though as it really is love embodied in a physical act and when the two people both love each other a lot it can therefore be very intense.

5. Why is it that SO many of my male friends are now going for much younger women? I personally only seem to go for women the same age or older. (BHN)
I couldn't honestly say. Perhaps because younger women are simpler and easily molded - eg don't have such strict ideas/rules for what they want from a relationship and will be bossed around without complaint more often. Perhaps they're more easy to get, more excited and less wary about the prospect of a relationship/score. Maybe your friends are attrcted to more innocent individuals/less jaded.

6. Do you believe the saying "once a cheater always a cheater?" (BHN)
I really hope not! Actually I don't believe it. Everybody makes mistakes and everybody should have a chance to grow and change from them, so definitely I think cheaters have the potential to be loyal and faithful partners. I have made some terrible mistakes in my life and relationships and don't want to be judged on them forever. Also every relationship is different. If someone cheated on me, I probably wouldn't trust them not to do it again, but if they cheated on someone else before me I'd deifnitely give them a chance to prove that things would be different in our relationship.

7. Why would a women dance suggestively with another man with her boyfriend present? (BHN)Because she likes dancing suggestively. Because she wants to rile her boyfriend up for some reason. Because she wants her boyfriend to realise how lucky he is to be going home with her. Because her boyfriend doesn't like dancing and she does. There are tons of possible reasons, some innocent and not manipulative, some are manipulative. You'd have to look at the specific context.

8. Do you think most women want heros or men they can grow old with? (BHN)
I think most women want me they can grow old with. I'd say a lot of women would be attracted to hero figures, but shy away from them if they're looking for a long term thing, there may just be too much ego involved when dating a hero. Personally I need to be able to give in a relationship, so if I felt like the guy was already invincible and would never need me then that would be a problem for me.

9. What in your opinion has changed most about your opinion towards men from when you first became interested in them to now? (BHN)
I guess I never realised how differently their heads work to females, I totally underestimated the difference. I should have paid more attantion to the propaganda.

10. If you had to choose one thing to change about yourself what would it be. (BHN)
I would choose to be less sensitive and not get upset/emotional about things that I shouldn't really be upset about, and also I would like to worry less.

11. I have a question. How do you recover from a mistake so big it costs you your quality of life. Not just one of those small lessons we learn every day - something big. (Jimmy)
Well that's a very difficult question to answer, especially not knowing what the mistake was. I guess I can only just give advice and imagine what I'd do myself. And I have had experience recovering from big things, but again I have no idea if I'm thinking about the same scale as you. Firstly I would enlist some help/support. Find people who will stand by you no matter what. The kind of people you can yell at and yell at and they will still be around tomorrow - I find parents good for this. I'd also try and look at this thing from every possible angle. If it has made you aware of your failings, made you determined to become a better person, made you learn something, even if it has only hurt you it would have made you strong - all of these things are positive, and ultimately you'll end up being a better person for your mistake. Make sure you forgive yourself, that is extremely important - if you don't think you can do this you probably can, it may just be really hard. Once you've forgiven yourself things will start falling into place most likely. I there are other people involved apologise, sincerely. And make sure you focus on moving forward, don't focus on your mistake. Your focus determines your reality, your life really is what you focus on.

Highs and Lows

Hello, I'm in a good mood today because it's such a beautiful day. Anyway I decided to make a list of good and bad things about my life right now.

Bad

  • I have an incredibly sore hand, it feels like it's bruised but you can see anything.
  • I have a sore shoulder that is very bruised. That's not the worst part, the worst part is I got it from walking into a door handle. That's still not the worst part, the worst part is I do this kind of thing constantly.
  • I have been plagued for the past four days by a very bad uncomfortable mouth ulcer.
  • We have to weed the garden at the flat which is stupid. Very stupid.
  • It's an incredibly gorgeous day which means poor Darren will get hot at work.
  • I have a dirty finger and I can't figure out how it got that way, I'm blaming my car.

Good

  • It's an absolutely gorgeous day.
  • There are daffodils flowering in our garden.
  • My fresias are flowering!
  • I have sewing tonight.
  • I recently got paid.
  • I had a lovely lovely evening with Fenia and Klava last night, we had coffee then watched Survivor and ate cheesecake.
  • My mouth ulcer is finally going away!

Ok so it looked like the bad outweighs the good, but that is not at all the case. Because the good things have so much more weight. Also as Nick will no doubt point out it's ask Mindy day today.
