RHCP Lyric of the Day: If you have to ask, you'll never know

First of all Congratulations to Lara for her absolutely wonderful poem. (Check out the comments on yesterday's post if you don't know what I'm talking about). And I encourage everyone else to have a go at it

Secondly I'm very sorry to Charmain and Danielle that I couldn't make it last night, I hope you guys had a great time, and I hope that your exam went well Charmain. :-)

Thirdly my hot water bottle is superb! I'm really enjoying owning it.

Fourthly check out this unfortunate window (hehe) sorry if my sense of humour is below some of you.

Fifthly HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATE!

Cattoo

RHCP Lyric of the Day: Rocking to the beat of the funky ass Meters

First I think I should explain what a Cattoo is (I made it up last night). It's a tattoo for a cat! Simple! Because Bradley took off his collar that has his contact information on (and a cute little bell) and he's hid it somewhere that only a cat would think to look because it's pretty much completely disappeared. And I'd challenge him to remove and hide a cattoo.

Also I'd like to give you some good advice (this is for Kirsty especially) "Don't be a sinner, be a winner!".

So I finally saw Kirsty again last night, so now I know what she looks like again. Also Andrew has commented that my blog is getting slightly more ridiculous, primarily because posts are based on stupid conversations we have at the flat. I say so be it!

And just for you Lara I will keep the comments for the week's entries open until Monday when I will close them... hope this helps :-)

Anyway I don't have much else to report.

Oh silly me I completely forgot! I have a new hot water bottle! I went and asked at Countdown and apparently there's some kind of hottie shortage at the moment and they keep ordering but can't get any in. So I went down to the chemist and asked there... and they had some! Quite a selection (well two to choose from). One beautiful German model, transparent, red rubber with hearts on it, and the normal ones. Guess which I chose?

Not so cold

RHCP Lyric of the Day: I liked your whiskers, I liked the dimple on your chin, your pale blue eyes

Well thank god it's not so cold today!

I'm a bit later than usual because Andrew made me late for work. It was his incessant cornflake consumption. But more importantly we've decided we're going to get a huge falcon and call it magoo. I'm not too sure why we are doing this, (I'm hoping he will police Bradley the cat, and save him from being squashed on the road) but that may take some training.

I joined a gym yesterday. I'm very excited. Mostly just because it was so expensive that I have to be. But also because I think it's going to be great. And now I've told the world I'll have to make sure I actually go. Also I went to buy a hot water bottle and I have not been able to find a supermarket that sells one... you'd think supermarkets would sell them, but apparently not. Granted I was too lazy to walk to the Warehouse to get one from there. Anyway hopefully by my next post I will have sorted out my hot water bottle situation.

So last night we named our newly set up tv room in the flat "the cosy room" and my gosh it's cosy. So if anyone is ever cold you're welcome to come by and sit in our little room with it's couch and arm chairs and lovely fire.

Ok have a nice day!

Cold

RHCP Lyric of the Day: I change the key from C to D you say to me it's just a minor thing

I'm cold. It's just not fair I tell you!

Friday was an excellent day. I went for a nice walk at lunchtime with Rania and Warren (although I was wearing boots so my fet got very sore) and then had a work dinner, then up to Gran's to see Auntie Jill and Gerald, and all the family. Then back at the flat Kirsty tied me up a couple of times and then we went down to the airport in our dressing gowns to pick Andrew up (he'd been visiting Hamilton). And to our excitment we weren't the only ones at the airport with dressing gowns on! (We were the eldest people though by approximately 20 years but hey!).

Then Saturday was the wedding. It was a super lovely wedding, really nice to see all the family together. And Andrea looked beautiful and they were a very happy couple. The highlight was of course Kirsty playing barmaid later in the evening once the downstairs bar had been abandoned.

Sunday was the wedding bbq, then house work, then watching Without a Paddle (it was mediocre), then to Mum and Dad's for Gran's birthday dinner. And on Monday I did nothing! Just watched a lot of Scrubs, had a nap, and hung out at Darren's for the rest of the evening.

So now I'm back ready to start work and I'm cold. But another excellent piece of news is now my yuccas are inside so I'm hoping they will cheer up considerably. It was lucky I bought them in before the wicked hail storm!

:-)

ps We've got a new person (another Canterbury graduate) starting on our team today! Woo hoo!

Scrubs Rules

RHCP Lyric of the Day: I could have lied I'm such a fool

Favourite Song of the Moment: Can't Stop - RHCP

Well Scrubs really does rule. In my opinion it is the best TV program that has ever been on TV ever. Well maybe not. Damn there goes my decisiveness... I do like Stargate a lot though and the Simpsons is always great. Ok but anyway Scrubs is really really awesome. By the way I have almost the entire four seasons, I'm just missing about the last 5 episodes.

Yesterday was pretty boring really. Kudos to Amy and John F for commenting and giving me at least a tiny bit of amusement. And I did run into Danielle at the supermarket which was nice, a really funny coincidence. Happy Birthday to Danielle for tomorrow!

And tonight we have Food Friday at work which means we get free food for dinner... yum! And my Auntie Jill and Gerald arrive this afternoon and Andrew gets back at 10pm tonight... so it's all happening. The reason people are coming is because of Josh and Andrea's wedding tomorrow... very exciting. The weather looks gorgeous today so I hope it's good for them tomorrow as well. And then it's Gran's birthday on Sunday so it'll be a good (long!) weekend.

Hope everyone all has a good weekend.

Petrol Prices

RHCP Lyric of the Day: Diviner than the dolphin that there is none coz dolphins just like to have a little fun

Favourite Song of the Moment: Dazed and Confused - Led Zep

The question I put to you today is do we want petrol prices to come down? Yesterday I sent on an email about a scheme to force BP and Mobil to reduce their petrol prices. The email triggered some interesting responses. First I was informed by an economics expert that boycotting particular stations will not cause them to lower their prices as that is not the way the petrol market works, Amy concurred as well. But I was also met with two very strong arguments that lowering the petrol prices would be a terrible thing. The environmental view it will keep people away from public transport, and Amy had some terribly heartfelt arguments that I didn't quite understand about it being an unsustainable resource and the price is too low already and people in some nation are living below the poverty line because of the low prices. Anyway maybe she could clarify (there was a lot of shouting and laughing going on whilst we had this argument in the car on the way to the restaurant). Anyway after initially thinking great, lower petrol prices I have reconsidered my position.

Dinner last night was really lovely. A similar sort of meal to the night before but completely different company and a completely different atmosphere. So thanks to Mum and Dad for taking us.

Belly button lint

RHCP Lyric of the Day: Choose not the life of hesitation

Favourite Song of the Moment: L'via L'viaquez by the Mars Volta

Ok well I know this is a conversation I've had with some people before, but to be honest I'm still completely baffled by belly button lint. Why do some people get it (constantly!) and some not at all. I had theories about the hairiness of people's bellys... but that theory was toppled, I always thought it was a guy thing... but no I've now spoken to girls who get it! Maybe it's to do with belly button shape, maybe it's genetic - I don't know... there seems to be no rational explanation! Personally I don't get it at all... not a trace... and I can't help but feel I'm missing out on a fundamental human experience.

Anyway dinner last night was really nice. Annies was a lovely place to go, I'd never been there before but the atmosphere and meal were both really good. And because I'm still pretty new to this team at work it's really great to get to talk to them about things other than work and find out a little more about them... especially as we don't get to talk that much at work.

Tonight I'm going out for dinner again! (Woo hoo!) With the family and Darren as a late graduation celebration. I think we're going to Tiffany's so I'll let you know what that was like.

Ok and the new pope has been elected. Andrew and I were discussing it this morning and we think it's kinda silly that he's already 78! Given that he'll probably retire in two years we figure this gives Andrew two years to get in the running for the next pope election. So I'd like everyone to support our call for Andrew as pope... he's going to be great! He's hoping to modernise the Catholic Church by becoming the first non-catholic pope.

Andrew Andrew Andrew Andrew Andrew

RHCP Lyric of the day: I feel the question of your loneliness

Andrew that title was just for you ;-) Andrew Andrew Andrew Andrew...

Well there's a big crane outside work this morning... very exciting! Which leads me to consider maybe I get excited all together too often. Hmmm. Also I use ellipses (...) and exclamation marks far too often, so sue me.

Didn't end up going to dinner last night, they're going tonight instead, unfortunately I won't be as I have a work dinner to attend. Which should be interesting, although in all honesty I'd probably still rather hang out with the 2 year old.

In gardening news I've decided it is probably not lack of water that is making my yuccas miserable, but probably just that it's too cold for them outside at the moment so I'll have to bring them in.

Have a lovely day everyone.

stick-free Teflon whitewashed presidency

RHCP Lyric of the Day: Never want to be confusion proof of

Favourite Song of the Moment: Bad Day by R.E.M.

Happy Monday everybody!

Graduation went off without a hitch... it was tons of fun and so wonderful to have my family, my Gran and Darren there to support and congratulate me. And the ball was great. Caught up with Lara at some stage in the evening and spent the rest of the time we were there catching up with her and Karthik.

Saturday was a pretty quiet day mostly just hung out and watched scrubs. Had Carrie's 21st on Saturday night. It was a nice evening just relaxing and chatting with Dan, Jo and Beth. Unfortunately I wasn't feeling too well though so I probably wasn't the best conversation. On Sunday I discovered what my purpose in life is... I'm going to be a kite caddy (it's like a golf caddy but involves helping out someone flying a kite, eg assisting with untangling, and digging the kite out of the ground when it nosedives etc - and yes I did just make that profession up). Kirsty, Andrew and I went out to Brighton where those two had a go at flying their kites... kites have changed a lot since I was a kid they seemed to be a lot faster and more aggressive, somewhat like angry seagulls!

Tonight is Margaret's (Darren's Mum) birthday so we'll be going out for tea and I get to hang out with Darren's two year old nephew Jessie which will be fun!

I've started reading a book Amy gave me called Kahlo - about the artist Frida Kahlo and it's really interesting. I hadn't really come across her art much until I saw (and loved) the movie. And from what I've read so far of the book the movie seems to be true to her life. But anyway everyone should see the movie, the visual transitions from her paintings to real life are quite amazing (just watch it and you'll know what I mean!).

Welcome!

RHCP Lyric of the Day: look and see I think you'll agree nobody weird like me

Good Morning!

Welcome to my blog. The chances are of course that no one at all will read this, as no one is aware of its existence... but that can be remedied, I have a devious plan... (and Andrew you will be aware that I am counting you as no one, yes this is intentional mwahaha).

Anyway it's a beautiful morning here in Christchurch which is of particular interest to me as today I am graduating! And apparently the parade around town is most fun part and so it looks very unlikely that it will be cancelled today. Woo hoo! And it is also good as good weather decreases the likelihood that I will freeze (and I don't want to freeze).

Now for those of you who know me, no doubt you will fully be expecting this to be a fantastic blog, and indeed it will be with all sorts of exciting features, frequent updates and general kookiness. To get the ball rolling I'm introducing my Red Hot Chili Peppers lyric of the day, which you should have noticed at the beginning of the post. And I'm sure I've think of other fun things that may be of slightly more interest to the less enlightened public who don't respect the Peppers as much as they perhaps should.

Right well tonight I also have the GRAD BALL!!!!! How exciting! I can't wait. Lara is coming down for it with Karthik, so it will be great to see her. Also it will just be nice to get to dress up and boss Darren around for an evening.

Speaking of Darren I'd better go wake him up and then figure out what I'm going to wear under my sexy academic regalia.

:-) M
