Red Hot Chili Peppers
Well the Red Hot Chili Peppers are my favourite band in the world (still). I'm not going to say they are the best or anything like that as I know I like them for more than just their musical talents, but they are extremely talented musicians.
My first encounter with the Peppers came in my last year of high school. I was shopping with Kim and maybe someone else for CDs for Uma's birthday (we were getting her a Live album) and anyway I decided to buy myself a CD at the same time, I was tossing up between the Distance to Here (Live) and Californication (Peppers) just because I'd heard Scar Tissue on the radio and been teaching myself to play it on the guitar. Anyway I chose Californication and fell head over heels in love with the album, and soon the band as well. (Don't worry I've got the Distance to Here now as well).
So I was totally hooked and I needed more. Fast. My next purchase was Blood Sugar Sex Magik. Well actually my Daddy bought it for me :-) However, he wouldn't let me have it until after bursary exams were over.... but I made it through and then got it and LOVED it! It is still probably my favourite album ever. I'm glad that back when I was building my Peppers CD collection I was poor because it meant I really thoroughly listened to an album before moving onto the next one. So yeah then I got One Hot Minute for Christmas, and the following year finished up the collection with Mother's Milk, Freaky Styley, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Uplift Mofo Party Plan. I now have a lot more than that too.
Interesting fact: one of my requirements for dating someone is they have to not hate the Chili Peppers. When I met Darren I asked him two questions before giving him my phone number
1) Do you drive, and do you have a car?
2) Do you hate the Chili Peppers?
Luckily for him he passed both questions :-) I'm not shallow really, but it would just be too hard to make the relationship work if either of those two were the wrong answer.
Side note: I had a wonderful evening last night. I went out with Fenia and Klava. We went to Dennys for dinner which was ok, and then to the Palms where we did a little shopping before going to see House of Wax. Which was a strange movie. It was kind of really stupid, but also good as well. So I'm very confused as to whether to recommend it or not.
:-) M

you saw house of wax!
Why do you sound so surprised? Is it because you thought it looked crap? Or because it's a scary movie and I'm a wuss?
I am vaguely offended you think a guy needs to drive and have a car before you will be interested.
I only say this because as you well known I have been challenged in these areas in the past. And still, a little bit actually.
Justify yourself!
Andrew the only reason is because before I met Darren I was going to go out with this guy from Rangiora who didn't have a car, I myself was still petrified of driving at this stage. And well, it would have been a weird relationship if Mum and Dad had had to give us rides everywhere.
Now that I'm fine with driving myself it probably wouldn't be an issue, although might prompt me to get my full. It was a convenience thing.
OK thats fine.
I'll allow it.
A guy from Rangiora? Dodged a bullet there.
does it really matter Andrew that you didn't meet one of mindy's prereqs?
No, of course not. That would be quite strange and Utah-like.
I was challenging her on a purely hypothetical level.
Nosey elephant.
Adam you'll be fine :-) Good luck!
Oh jeez....
How could ANYONE prefer Metallica over Led Zeppelin or RCHP?
I just don't understand it at all. I really don't.
Wibble
That's ok, as far as I know the Chillis aren't anywhere near as good as this awesome band the Chilis.
Interesting note: before Pearl Jam Eddie Vedder was a singer in a Red Hot Chili Peppers cover band.
And I'm not being all snobby and "my taste is better than yours" about it.
I listen to one, I listen to the other and they honestly really seem furlongs apart in fundamental ways.
Isn't music interesting?
What I think would be interesting would be to look at the percentage of each band's fanbase were actually musicians themselves.
Because Andrew we both play music ourselves which probably accounts for the different way we appreciate it. Not to be rude but Metallica probably have a lower proportion of musician fans than someone like the Mars Volta. Infact I don't think I've met anyone who loves the Mars Volta who wasn't a muscian.
Well with Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin under belt it sounds like your tastes are quite refined.
I don't know much about music really, but I'm quite careful to avoid disliking something. At a push I might say I don't listen to it. Also I've got nothing against Metallica, I mean like I said earlier this week I was so impressed with their performance at the Big Day Out, and I also love their songs. Especially their rendition of Queen's Stone Cold Crazy :-)
Hehe my tastes are quite refined. I want it on record that I LOVED the Spice Girls. Also 5ive. They rocked :-)
I bet ya if you asked most modern (rock) bands who their favourite band is, almost all would have Led Zeppelin in there top 10.
I think that says something. I'm not going to say what.
I think it says bananas!!!! Not in the Gwen Stefani way tho because she stole bananas from me! They're mine!!
Side note: I feel so so so so so so so so so crook. I have for three days now. It was funny because I felt fine last night when I was out. But because we have the meeting at 4pm that means only 3 more hours of work so I'm pretty sure with support and encouragement I can make it without going home.
Also I went to the doctor this morning and I'm going to get a blood test to find out why I have so many mouth ulcers. Cool eh?
i like queen
everyone does really- even people who say they don't
Thanks Nick, I'm almost there. Just 15 minutes...
Where are you Mindy?
